Banking and Payment Tips

Based on community recommendations from Kaskasan Buddies, these are the cards and banks commonly recommended for travel use. Please still check your own bank's fees, limits, and travel advisories before leaving.

๐Ÿ’ณ

Debit Cards / Withdrawal Options

  • โ—Maribank โ€” top recommended
  • โ—GCash
  • โ—GoTyme

Best used for withdrawals or debit transactions, depending on your account and fees.

๐Ÿฆ

Credit Cards / Forex Fee Options

  • โ—BPI
  • โ—Metrobank
  • โ—EastWest
  • โ—Any travel credit card with good foreign exchange fees
โ‚ฉ

Always choose KRW / Korean Won when paying by card.

When the terminal asks whether to pay in PHP or KRW, choose KRW. This usually avoids dynamic currency conversion and may give you a better exchange rate through your bank or card provider.

โš ๏ธ Avoid choosing PHP on foreign card terminals unless you intentionally want the merchant's conversion rate.

Traveling with Babies & Kids

Essential packing and travel tips for families with little ones.

โœˆ๏ธ

Quick reminder: Please still check your airline's baggage rules and airport security guidelines before flying, especially for milk, formula, baby liquids, strollers, and baby gear.

๐Ÿผ

Milk, Formula & Feeding

  • โ—Buy milk storage pouches for easier and lighter hand-carry packing. Less bulky than containers and easier to organize.
  • โ—Put the full milk powder container in checked baggage if you don't need it during the flight.
  • โ—If the container is already open, place it inside a ziplock bag and tape/seal it properly to avoid spills.
  • โ—For hand carry, pack only the milk/formula you need for airport waiting, flight duration, possible delays, and first few hours after arrival.
  • โ—If your baby is sensitive to a specific brand, bring enough for the whole trip โ€” brands and availability may differ abroad.
  • โ—Keep all baby feeding items together in one pouch: bottles, nipples, formula, bibs, burp cloths, bottle wipes, and ziplock bags for dirty items.
๐Ÿซง

Bottle Steamer / Warmer

  • โ—Aimee will personally bring a bottle steamer and warmer.
  • โ—Please let her know if you plan to use it so you don't need to bring your own.
  • โ—This helps everyone keep checked baggage lighter and avoids bringing duplicate bulky items.
๐Ÿงท

Diapers & Wipes

  • โ—Bring around 2 days' worth of diapers only, especially if your baby is not sensitive to specific brands.
  • โ—For a 6-day stay, buy the rest locally in South Korea instead of packing a large supply.
  • โ—Lotte Mart is one of the best options for diapers, wipes, baby snacks, toiletries, and bottled water.
  • โ—You can also check E-Mart, Homeplus, pharmacies, convenience stores, or department store baby sections.
  • โ—If your baby has sensitive skin or only uses one specific brand, bring more from home just to be safe.
  • โ—Tip: Take a photo of your baby's current diaper brand and size so it's easier to compare in Korea. Sizes may be listed by baby weight in kg.
๐ŸŽ’

Hand-Carry Essentials for Babies

โ—Diapers for the flight + delays
โ—Wipes
โ—Changing pad
โ—Diaper cream
โ—1โ€“2 extra baby outfits
โ—Extra shirt for mom/dad
โ—Milk/formula
โ—Bottles
โ—Bibs and burp cloths
โ—Pacifier, if used
โ—Lightweight blanket
โ—Baby medicine, if needed
โ—Thermometer
โ—Small toys or comfort item
โ—Plastic/ziplock bags for dirty clothes
๐Ÿง’

Hand-Carry Essentials for Kids

โ—Extra clothes
โ—Jacket or hoodie
โ—Snacks
โ—Empty water bottle
โ—Small toys or activities
โ—Stickers, coloring book, or tablet
โ—Headphones
โ—Wet wipes
โ—Small blanket or neck pillow
โ—Any daily medicine

๐Ÿ’ก Snacks usually help more than toys during travel. Pack small, low-mess snacks in portions.

๐Ÿ›ซ

Airport & Flight Tips

โ—Arrive earlier than usual โ€” traveling with babies/kids takes more time.
โ—Use a baby carrier if you have one. It helps during security, boarding, immigration, and baggage claim.
โ—Do a diaper change before boarding if possible.
โ—Feed the baby or offer a pacifier during takeoff and landing to help with ear pressure.
โ—For older kids, offer snacks, water, or something to chew during takeoff and landing.
โ—Dress babies and kids in layers โ€” airports and planes can be hot during boarding and cold during the flight.
โ—Keep milk/formula/baby food in one easy-to-remove pouch for security screening.
โ—If bringing a stroller, check if the airline allows gate-checking.
